Confirming the Friday incident, Likoni OCPD Willy Simba said the man aged between 30-35 years, died while undergoing first aid treatment after being rescued by the Kenya Ferry Rescue team.

Simba said they could not identify the man as he lacked identification documents.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Coast General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.

The OCPD further cautioned residents against committing suicide, adding that they should seek counseling from religious leaders and family members.

Last month, a man identified by police as Rufus Kamau, jumped off a crowded ferry in the middle of the Likoni Channel after his wife left him.

He was however rescued by divers aboard the ferry and treated at a local hospital.
