A man has died of cholera in Likoni, Mombasa County as the health department puts in place measures to curb the deadly disease.
According to a local daily, the wife of the deceased is fighting for her life at one of the cholera treatment centers in the county following the demise of her husband.
A source at the Cholera treatment center where the wife of the deceased is undergoing treatment revealed that her condition has continued to deteriorate. “He died at Shika Adabu and the wife is still fighting for her life at the same facility.
Her condition has deteriorated,” said a source at the facility, as quoted by Daily Nation.
It is reported that more than 10 persons diagnosed with the diseases are undergoing treatment in public and private healthcare facilities across the county.
The number of persons who have died of this diseases has risen to six in a period of two months.
The county’s health officials have attributed the outbreak of the disease to poor hygiene. According to the County Chief Health Officer Khadija Shikely, said that they have collected blood samples for testing at the Kenya Medical Research Institute laboratories in Nairobi.
She called upon the local residents of the area to be keen on their hygiene following the outbreak of the disease.
She also directed all the patients diagnosed with high fever to go for malaria and dengue fever screening.
