A middle aged man died on Monday evening in Kiogoro village after he was hit on the head by gym weights.
For the purpose of keeping fit, youths in the area have improvised weights using 20 litres jerricans filled with ballast, sand and cement which are lifted as chest bars.
According to one of the witnesses, the deceased, John Ogega, was an active weight lifter but was overpowered by the new 80 kilograms lift weight leading to him crushing his head.
"We introduced a new weight of 80kg which was meant for the heavy weight lifters. Little did we know it was too much for him," said Rafael Nyarango.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Henry Mirera advised the locals to embrace in safety measures in their day to day activity to avoid such death incidents un future.
"Please ensure you are vigilant in everything you do. These weights are dangerous the best way to subscribe for the qualified gym sessions," Mirera said.
The body of the decreased was taken to Kisii level 6 hospital mortuary.
