Police officers in Nyamira have launched a man hunt for an 18-year-old man who escaped from Manga juvenile remand center.

According to police, the suspect was taken to the facility after he was arrested for defiling a form two girl. 

Nyamira South police boss Maurice Asila confirmed the incident the suspect lied to police that he was 18 years old yet he was 21 years old. 

“The suspect lied to police before he was brought to the Manga children’s jail. He jumped the fence on Saturday and fled to unknown place but we will not leave anything to chance he must be re-arrested and be charged afresh,” said Asila.

He urged members of the public to help police officers to trace the suspect.

“Anyone with information about the suspect’s hiding should report to police so that the criminal can be re-arrested,” he pleaded.

Asila urged police officers guarding the facility to be vigilant to prevent other prisoners from escaping.
