A Borabu-based businessman has challenged the government to build an old people’s residence in his 1.5-hactare piece of land in Borabu constituency as a way of making the aged comfortable in the society.

Speaking on Wednesday at Nyagacho village during a burial ceremony of 88-year-old Johnson Omare, who allegedly lived in poor conditions before succumbing to his death, Mr Cyrus Ochengo said he would submit the title deeds to the government once it showed interest in developing the land.

Mr Ochengo further said the move will create jobs for the youthful population in the area since the government will be forced to employ caretakers who will be mandated to take care of the aged in the society.

“I have seen some of the old in the society going through a lot of difficulties without getting help. I have donated the land, not far from here and I will submit the title deed in case the government shows interests in developing it. This will also create jobs for youthful population,” he said.

The move was welcomed by area MCA Alfayo Mwongeresa who vowed to inform the county government and subsequently grasp the opportunity for the sake of old people in the society.

“This is very encouraging news for us since the old are with us in the society. I will inform the relevant authorities in the county government because the project will help us handle a number of aged people who are living in abject poverty,” he said.
