A 20-year-old man drowned and died in Masinga dam in Kwa Mavui area on Monday afternoon.
Confirming the incident Katulye sub location subchief Josphat Ngumbi said that the man was in the company of his friends as he swam before drowning.
Ngumbi disclosed that the man tried to get out of the water before he was carried as the water level has gone up.
He said the victims friends called for help to save him but he was already dead when brought ashore since he had got stuck in the mud.
Ngumbi said the man was new to the place as he is from Nyahururu in Kirinyaga county.
Ngumbi urged residents to avoid swimming in the dam as it has a lot of water and people could drown.
"The dam is full of water thus very dangerous as its prone to people drowning," said Ngumbi.
The body of the victim was taken by the police to Embu level five hospital mortuary.
