A car driver escaped death by a whisker when a truck crashed on top of his car on Tuesday afternoon along the busy Thika-Garissa Highway near Kivulini Apartments in Makongeni Thika.
According to eyewitnesses, both vehicles were driving from the Thika directions.
"The car was exiting the highway to divert towards Kisii Estate when the speeding lorry which was a short distance behind, failed to stop in time thereby crashing onto the small car," said Martin Njoroge, an eyewitness.
Another eyewitness James Mwaura, said that in an attempt to avoid a worse crash, the truck driver attempted to swerve towards the sides, consequently dragging the small car into a ditch.
"We are still puzzled how the car driver managed to escape unhurt. We are happy there were no fatalities because this road has claimed way too many lives," he said.
The accident attracted very many curious eyewitnesses who immediately rushed to the scene from the nearby Kisii estate and Gachagi slums which caused heavy traffic on both lanes. However, police managed to clear the road within two hours.
The two vehicles were later towed to Makongeni Police Station as investigations go on.
