A middle-aged man escaped death narrowly, after he was washed by flash floods following heavy rains that rocked Naivasha Sub County for the second day running.

During the downpour, property worth thousands of shillings was destroyed, with some roads being rendered impassable.

According to a witness, Mungai Nguro, the boda boda cyclist was trying to cross a flooded section when he was swept away.

Nguro said the man was rescued by residents, and he escaped with injuries and rushed to a nearby hospital.

“It is raining heavily and residents should be cautioned against going to flooded areas as this could lead to fatalities,” he said.

Meanwhile, fear of diseases outbreak have hit hundreds of residents of Kihoto slum in Naivasha following the ongoing rains, which have flooded latrines and water from wells.

And as the ongoing rains continue to ponder the area, it emerged that raw sewer was mixing with water from wells, posing a health crisis to the communities living around the area.

Following the move, the government has moved in to address the problem by supplying affected families with water treatment tablets and disinfectants.

According to Naivasha Sub County Public Health Officer Caroline Vatai, over 6,000 people in the region would benefit from the supply.

Vata admitted that the rains had caused wanton destruction washing away latrines and flooding others.

The senior officer noted that other areas affected by the floods were in Naivasha were Ndabibi, Mai-Mahiu and Moi Ndabi and would also get the disinfectants.

Vata pointed out to Kihoto estate as the most sensitive as the locals relied on water from wells some of which had flooded.
