A shopkeeper from Mogusii village in Nyamira County has asked the government to help him recover goods from his shop after angry residents evicted him forcibly from the village over witchcraft allegations.
John Okero on Thursday said residents had barred him from accessing his rented facility in the area, threatening to kill him if he dared step in the village.
He said efforts to get help from the area assistant chief, Evans Ogechi, have been futile since the administrator is said to have turned down his request severally.
“I am a Kenyan and I have been denied access to pick my shop items from the rented premises. It is unfortunate that they are condemning me over what I have never practised since my youth,” said the embattled shopkeeper.
“I beg the government to help me recover my property since the assistant chief seems to side with my accusers. They have been threatening to kill me if I ever stepped in the village,” he added.
However Mr Ogechi distanced himself from the claims and asked the man to pick his items since he had rights to access any region within the country.
“I am shocked that someone can link me with such perilous claims. I have never supported irresponsible neighbourhood as he claims. Let him pick his items peacefully without implicating people,” Ogechi said.
