A middle aged man is fighting for his life in a Nyamira hospital after he was attacked by an angry mob in Kebirichi village in Masaba North Nyamira County over wizard claims.
It is alleged that the residents ambushed the man who is a boda boda in his house on Friday and descended on him with kicks and blows before they set him on fire accusing him for being a wizard killing people in the area.
Masaba North police boss Eliud Njeru confirmed the incident and said the man was rescued from the hands of the angry mob by police officers who were on patrol.
“The man could be dead by now but police rescued him and rushed him to Nyamira County hospital for treatment following the panga cuts and burns injuries he had sustained,” said Njeru.
He warned residents against taking the law into their hands and urged them to surrender criminals to police for court processing.
“No one is above the law because we are all protected by the law. Any suspected criminal should be surrendered to police so that he or she can be taken to court,” said Njeru.
The police boss assured that the residents who led in the incident are being pursued by police.
