A middle aged man has been fined Sh50,000 for arson contrary to the law in Kangundo, Machakos County.
Naaman Muema was arraigned in Kangundo Law Courts on Monday.
Muema was charged with allegedly torching a house hence destroying goods worth Sh100,000, property of one Mercy Mwende.
The accused who appeared before senior principal magistrate Desderious Orimba pleaded guilty to the charges.
Orimba ordered the defendant to pay the fine or face 18 months imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the accused committed the crime on 19th February 2018 in Tala town, Matungulu Sub County of Machakos County.
In the same court, another suspect Daniel Mutuku was fined Sh5,000 or face a six months imprisonment for breaking into his grand mother's house and destroying seats.
The court heard that the accused committed the offense on 27th of February 2018 in Tala, Matungulu Sub County.
He pleaded guilty to the offense.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency claiming he was drunk on the fateful day.
The court considered his plea and released him on a Sh5,000 fine.
However, the judge warned him that drunkenness should not be a reason to engage in criminal activities.
