A man was on Saturday found dead in Nyamokenye village, Bogiakumu location, Gucha South sub-county, Kisii County.
The man, identified as Alex Omari, 21, was found lying dead on a murram road leading to his home with visible injuries on his stomach.
County Police Commander Agnes Mudambi said residents who discovered the body in the morning contacted acting area chief Mr Boniface Ongoro.
“After villagers notified him on their discovery of the body, Mr Ongoro then called officers attached to Gesonso Police Station who visited the scene,” she said.
According to the police boss, the body had several deep cuts in the abdomen.
“We suspect the deceased met his death after bleeding profusely from injuries caused by a sharp object,” said Ms Mudambi.
No suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, with police suspecting that the deceased was attacked at dawn.
“We suspect he must have met his death at dawn following an attack by unknown assailants. The killers then escaped after repeatedly stabbing him, leaving his body at the roadside,” she told the Nation.
Police are yet to discover the assailants’ identity or the motive for the man’s apparent killing.
“We have commenced investigations into the incident but are yet to discover the assailants or motive behind the attack,” said Ms Mudambi.
She appealed to members of the public with information on the crime to contact the police with details to assist them bring the culprits to book.
The body has been moved to Nyangena Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
