A man who was facing charges of illegally being in possession of a firearm and ammunition was on Friday found guilty by a Mombasa Court.
Mr Rama Ali Bamama alias Bakari Rashid Mwambevu was being accused of breaking into the house of police constable Alexander Kipyegomen and stole a G3 rifle loaded with twenty rounds of ammunition.
The court heard that the accused person committed the crime in July 2016 and was further accused of terrorizing residents in Likoni Sub-County.
The accused person was also facing a second count of robbery with violence which he committed in Likoni, Mombasa.
The court heard that the accused stole Sh222,000 from Ms Margaret Otundo and Sh16,000 from Mr Koshi Mohamed while he was armed with a gun and threatened to use actual harm against them.
The accused had told the court that the house where the firearm was recovered belonged to a witch doctor and he had gone for treatment.
Chief magistrate Erick Makori however dismissed his claims saying he did not provide any evidence to show he had gone for treatment at the house.
Magistrate Makori further ruled that the stolen gun found in the possession of the accused person was involved in different robbery with violence cases in the area.
“From the evidence, it’s clear that the firearm was found in the house of an accused person and he did not prove that it belonged to him,” ruled the magistrate as quoted by Baraka FM.
Magistrate Makori will give a sentence on Monday following prosecution’s request for more time to find out if the accused has a conviction record.
