A Kajiado Court on Thursday sentenced a man to 40 years in jail for defiling his step daughter.

The court heard that Jared Orina defiled his 14-year-old daughter in his Isinya home between January and May 2016.

Senior prosecution counsel, Renson Ingonga, said the accused had promised to educate the girl after marrying her mother several years ago.

“Your honour, such cases are increasing in numbers every day in this region and I am asking the court to deal with this case, in particular, with the urgency it deserves,” said Ingonga, as quoted by The Star.

In his ruling Kajiado Resident Magistrate Evans Mbicha said sexual offenders should not be allowed to live freely among young girls and women.

He was given 14 days to appeal the ruling.
