Abdul Ekwam appeared before Molo senior resident magistrate Heston Nyaga and pleaded guilty to the charges. The charges against him stated that on February 10 of last year, he defiled the three boys aged seven, eight and 11 who were playing near his compound at Kibunja area in Molo.

The incident allegedly happened after enticing the boys with cakes and sweets.

The court heard that the culprit gagged the boys in his house and tied them using a rope then proceeded to perform the beastly act and later releasing them. He also warned them of dire consequences if they reported the matter to anybody.

However, the boys reported the matter to their parents who in turn alerted the area chief, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

In mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency, saying he had a young family which depended on him.

Justice Nyaga rubbished the plea, saying the magnitude of the offense was large as the rights of the children had been abused.

And in the same court, a 41-year-old man who was found guilty of raping a 19-year-old lady was sentenced to 10 years in jail. David Tonui pleaded guilty to the charges, saying he was drunk when he committed the offense.

The judge said Tonui’s plea for leniency would not be considered due to the rate at which rape and defilement cases were increasing.
