A man found himself in trouble with village elders after he snatched someone’s wife.
This happened on Tuesday at Raganga village, Kitutu Chache South constituency, Kisii County.
Douglas Ogwora is said to have married someone’s wife after she abandoned her husband and came to live with him.
Residents said the first husband to the woman reported the man to village elders who summoned him to appear before them.
“Mr Ogwora forced Edinah to break up with her first husband who had already paid the dowry. Ogwora was summoned by the elders and showed up. Elder questioned him and he lied to them that the woman told him that he still single,” said Raphael Ondigi.
Ondigi said the elders forced the man to lie down and gave him 10 strokes for snatching a married woman.
The elders led by Chris Moikoyo condemned the man and said they will expel him from the village if he attempts to snatch another man’s wife.
People like Ogwora who lack respect for other people’s wives will not have room in the village. Next time we will expel him if he snatches any man’s wife,” he said.
Area assistant chief Simon Mbwayo confirmed the incident and said men who will not heed to the elders’ advice will be caned in public and be forced to walk naked in public.
