A middle-aged man from Nyaguku Manga Nyamira County has gone into hiding after he collected funeral money.
According to residents, the man identified as Mokandu was appointed to serve as the treasurer to organize for the funeral of one of the residents when he disappeared with the man.
“We were shocked to learn that Mokandu has gone missing with the funeral money the villagers had raised to pay for mortuary and hospital bills before we could take the body for burial. He disappeared with Sh30,000,” said Douglas Mogere, a villager.
Gladys Barongo, area Nyumba Kumi official, condemned the incident and said the suspect is being traced.
“We have launched a manhunt to arrest the suspect who has brought shame not only to his family but also the whole village. He must be arrested to refund back the funeral money the villagers contributed to help the family to bury the dead,” said Barongo.
He called on villagers to arrest and surrender the suspect to authorities wherever they spot him in the area.
