A man aged 49 years was hacked to death by hired goons in what is believed to be a land dispute with his neighbor.
The incident happened on Sunday night at Engoru village in Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County.
The deceased identified as Nyachwaya on Friday last week is said to have quarreled with his neighbor over a land boundary.
"The last time we heard him quarrel with a person was his neighbor over a piece of land. We later had rumours that the neighbor threatened to take his life away," said Peter Nyamosi, a local.
Kerubo, the deceased wife who sleeps in a different room with her 2 daughters said she heard a confrontation in her husband’s bedroom.
"I heard a commotion in the room at around 12 am and went to confirm what was happening. I was shocked to find my husband lying down in a pool of blood. The goons used an axe to kill him,” she said.
She added that the goons who had covered themselves by masks told her that they were sent by their neighbor to kill her husband.
Kisii County police commander Hassan Abdi confirmed the incident saying that the thugs fled abandoning the axe behind.
He said the deceased neighbor has gone into hiding but, police officers have launched a manhunt to arrest him.
Abdi said the man’s body was moved to KTRH mortuary.
