The court heard that Nicholas Muriuki, hit his wife with a blunt object, following an argument on March 15, 2016 in Kaare, Tharaka-Nithi County.

The wife sought treatment at Magutuni Sub-County hospital but the accused attacked her again on returning home.

Muriuki then took his injured wife to Chuka County Referral Hospital the following day where she succumbed to the injuries.

Appearing before Judge Alfred Mabeya, Muriuki admitted to fighting with the deceased but denied killing her.

“We only fought but I did not kill my pregnant wife,” said Muriuki.

In his ruling, Judge Mabeya sentenced the accused to 10 years in prison, saying he had shown remorse.

“The accused is remorseful, a first offender and a sole bread winner of three children. The court therefore jails him for 10 years,” said Judge Mabeya, as quoted by the Nation.
