The suspect, Alex Maraga Nyambane from Nyamusi division was arrested by the military police officers during the exercise at Ekerenyo in Nyamira North after he allegedly said he was ready to join the al-Shabaab even if he was not successful in joining the defence forces.

An officer who arrested the candidate and who is not allowed to speak on behalf of KDF said he heard Maraga mention that the al Shabaab would be ready to welcome him if they (KDF) did not consider him for the job.

He said it was a serious issue for the candidate to mention so even if he meant no seriousness.

The officer said  the suspect would be handed over to the anti-terror police for further questioning.

Maraga was interrogated and handed over to officers at the Ekerenyo police post for further questioning to establish if he has any links to the group.

By the time of going to press, he was still being held at the Ekerenyo police post.

KDF is conducting a month-long recruitment exercise across the country. the exercise began on September 19 and will run through to October 18.
