The 30-year-old man, identified as Gituku admitted to have been caught at Thika Kenya Power depot stealing the cables valued at approximately Sh16,000.

“I accept the offence and I did it because of poverty. My honour, I am also sorry for having earlier told lies to the court,” said Gituku when pleading guilty.

The magistrate however was not lenient on him in his ruling, noting that giving out a false testimony to a court of law is a serious offence.

“I hereby sentence the accused for one year in prison for the offence and for telling lies to this court. He has 14 days to appeal the ruling,” ruled the Magistrate.

Before the ruling, the court heard that the accused was found in Thika depot by the watchmen guarding the place trying to throw the cables over the fence, when he was arrested and taken to Thika Police Station.
