Jorum Ndegwa, who operates a music store at Keratina business centre in Nakuru town, was accused of being in possession of 200 songs of local vernacular musicians saved on his computer system believed to be intended for pirating.
The court, under the precision of Chief Resident Magistrate Felix Kombo heard that the music store operator was also arrested in possession of other pirated music by foreign artistes outside, an indicator that he intended to pirate the local music items contrary to copyright laws of Kenya.
According to the prosecution bench, on Monday afternoon this week, Anti-piracy officials while on normal patrol stormed the music shop and interrogated the accused about the source of the music he sales.
The court heard that upon further checkups in the inner room of the shop, the officials stumbled upon a computer machine in which they discovered files containing music by local musicians.
According to the charge sheet, the accused is a suspected pirate, as the music items found in his possession did not have a valid receipt or compact of sale. He was released on a Sh100,000 bond before the case being heard on December 30.
