Wilson Adrira Asena who appeared before Judge Henry Nyakwena is accused of fraudulently receiving the money from Mombasa Fellowship Church after convincing the church leadership that he would sell a parcel of land located in Makupa to the church.

According to the prosecution, Asena produced a land title for the land but it was later established that the document was fake.

This prompted the church leaders to report the matter to police before he was tracked down and arrested.

Asena, however, denied the charges and was released on a Sh1 million bond awaiting the full hearing of the case.

He had also, before being freed pleaded to Judge Nyakwena to set him free as he had children in school who depended on him for their school fees.

He said his wife was jobless and his detention will make the family suffer as he is the only breadwinner.

The court heard that Asena received the first payment of Sh3.5 million in February before the church paid the balance on March 15.

The church leadership told the court to ensure the accused receives a hefty jail sentence so that his case acts as an example to other people with the same intention.
