A man was on Monday charged before a Nakuru court for obtaining money by fraud claiming that he was in a position a sell land parcel.

Samuel Njenga was accused of allegedly obtaining Sh1.2 million from Nancy Njoroge after an agreement to buy half an acre of land in Njoro/Ngata block area on diverse dates between October 2, 2014 and February 3, 2015 within Nakuru Town.

The court heard that the Ms Njoroge was approached by the accused saying that he had a land for sale. In January 2015, she says she entered into an agreement with the accused and amount of Sh800,000 was paid through cash and M-PESA.

Ms Njoroge said she later came to realise that the land was in possession of another person prompting her to report the matter to the police.

Njenga's lawyer Steve Kabita defended Njenga by saying that he was unfortunately caught up in the mess which they intend to sort outside the court and reequested his client be released on reasonable bond.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Joel Ngeno, Njenga pleaded not guilty and was given a Sh1 million surety bond.

The case will be heard on October 1.
