A man was on Tuesday arraigned before a Nakuru court and charged with stealing 62 'mitumba' shirts.
Elijah Waweru was accused of allegedly stealing 62 mitumba shirts worth sh3,100 belonging to John Shihu on June 11, 2017 at Nakuru Township market within Nakuru county.
Waweru allegedly stole the shirt at a shop while the owner was away.
The said shirts were kept in a sack.
The suspect was reportedly spotted coming out of the shop with the said sack by a woman who was at a nearby shop and she raised an alarm.
He was mobbed by people but was luckily rescued by police manning a nearby bank.
He was arrested and taken to Central Police Station where he was charged with the offense of stealing.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Geoffrey Oduor, Waweru denied the charges and prayed for favorable bond terms.He was granted a cash bail of sh10,000.
Oduor also ordered that the accused be furnished with witnesses statements and any other document that the prosecution will use against him.
The case will be mentioned on June 28 to fix a hearing date.
