Evans Wepukhulu allegedly tricked Charity Gathuku into giving him the money between April 28 and June 9 this year. He was also accused of stealing Gathuku’s passport valued at Sh4,000 on April 28. He denied both charges.

Prosecutor Rop Sirorei urged the court to remand the suspect pending completion of investigations.

He noted that it had been difficult to arrest Wepukhulu who had been evading a police dragnet for a long time. He noted that the accused operates from Nairobi city.

Sirorei explained to the court that it took the force of the police to access the house in which the accused was taking refuge, thus letting the accused free on bond could make it hard to retrace him.

The accused told the court that he was ready to cooperate with the police to complete investigations.

Principal magistrate Felix Kombo directed that the accused be remanded at the Nakuru Central police station till September 2 to allow the police to collect all the evidence for the case.
