A man on Friday appeared before a Machakos court after being accused of stealing two chicken valued at Sh1,200.
Joseph Kimeu according to the prosecution is said to have stolen the chicken belonging to Ann Mutinda on Tuesday but was arrested before selling them at Kamunyani market in Machakos County.
When he appeared before Resident Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe at Kithimani Law Courts, Kimeu said he stole the chicken as he had a problem to solve. He said he needed money to sort out the problem.
"I was very pressed and I needed money," he told Magistrate Shikwe.
The owner of the chicken, Ms Mutinda, told the court the accused should not be freed and should act as a lesson to other people in the area with a similar behaviour.
Mutinda said she woke up on the fateful day to feed the chicken when she learnt that the door to the chicken house had been broken and two of the chicken she possessed were missing.
Sh reported the incident to a neighbour and was told to do some probe at a nearby Kamunyani market.
Luckily when she arrived there she saw the chicken tied with a rope on a fence post in the market.
She took a strategic position to see who would pick them. She spotted Kimeu haggle for the price of the two bird.
She then walked to Kimeu in the company of the market supervisors who arrested him and handed him over to the police.
His case will be heard and determined on April 24, 2018.
