A middle-aged man was on Tuesday arraigned in a Thika court charged with assaulting a woman and causing her bodily harm.

Joseph Macharu appeared before Thika Magistrate Esther.Mburu charged that on the April 22 2014 at around 9 O'clock in Makuyu, he beat up one Linda Muchina with a blunt object, causing body injuries to her chest, back and head.

Prosecuting Inspector Stella Oyagi told the court that the accused entered into a wrangle with the complainant, after he found her fetching water from his father's borehole.

Thomas Macharu, the accused’s father, remained a witness to the case,

“He is my son but justice must prevail, I had permitted Linda to fetch water from the borehole, then I later I saw him beat her up, I tried separating the two but Kamau could hear none of it,” he said, adding that after sometime, he gave up trying to separate them as he is an old man, weak, frail and sickly.

Dr. Stella Mwangi, from Thika Level Five affirmed that indeed on the said date, a patient by the name Linda Mweke was treated at the hospital, after incurring a fatal beating where she suffered bruises on her body, chests and back pains.

Paul Okuthe, a police officer from Makuyu police station confirmed that he was involved with the case, and that he was among thos who arrested the accused.

Kamau pleaded not guilty, but will remain in custody and the case was adjourned to March 31.
