A Mombasa man was on Tuesday arraigned before the Shanzu Law Courts to answer to charges of attempting to kill his 9-year-old daughter.Jumaa Kenga is alleged to have attempted to kill his daughter by throwing her into a 70 ft well on September 8, 2017 at Ziwa la Ng’ombe area in Kisauni. The court heard that the girl suffered spinal cord injuries during the incident and she is recovering in hospital.Kenga is also facing a second charge of assaulting and causing actual bodyily harm to his 4-year-old son.He, however, denied the charges before the court arguing that his wife had threatened to divorce him and thus acted out of anger.“Your honour my wife had ran away from home at night and went to sleep in a nearby church,” said Kenga, as quoted by Baraka FM.Kenga filed an application to be released on bail but the request was opposed by the prosecutor who told the court that the accused will interfere with the witnesses, who are his children.Mombasa principle Magistrate Diana Mochache remanded Kenga pending the next case hearing. The case will be mentioned on the December 1, 2017.
