A young man accused of stealing two cows amused a Thika court today when he demanded that two Nyumba Kumi Initiative members produce an audio recording of what transpired when they arrested him.
George Gichuru Wanjiru challenged Samuel Ndumia Munyeri and Jacinta Wandia who are members of Nyumba Kumi from Nyamakuyu village in Nyeri County to produce the recordings to prove that they were telling the court the truth.
The two were testifying in a case where Wanjiru is accused of stealing two Friesian cows belonging to Agnes Njeri Warutumo.
Wandia had told the court that she became suspicious when she saw Wanjiru driving away the cows at around 7 a.m at Makuyu shopping centre and decided to confront him.
She said when she interrogated Wanjiru about the cows he said he was taking them to Kamakwa which was puzzling as he was heading towards Tetu in the opposite direction.
Wandia added that Wachira faked a phone call when asked to call the person he was claiming had sold him the cows at Kihuyo village.
Wanndia then alerted Ndumia who later called the local chief and administration police who took the two cows to Tetu Police Post.
Wachira later led the police officers, the chief and the Nyumba Kumi Initiative members to Njeri’s home at Nyamakuyu village where it was confirmed that the cows had been stolen from there the previous night.
Principal Magistrate, Stephen Mbugi adjourned the case to August 11th this year when the chief and the arresting officers will testify.
