A middle-aged man was on Friday arraigned in a Nakuru law court for being in possession of cannabis sativa (bhang).
Appearing before Chief Magistrate David Kimei, Benson Mwangi was accused that on May 5, he was found having the illegal drug in Bahati, Nakuru.
His sister, Nancy Wairimu said that he found the illegal drugs under a table in Mwangi's room and reported the matter at Bahati Police Station the following morning.
"The house Mwangi lives in was formerly used by our late mother and I went to find my jacket in the room. As I was turning clothes, I came across the drugs which from the smell I could tell it was bhang," said Wairimu.
She also told the court that the accused had been under the influence of drugs since 2000 and had been taken to Mathari and Nyahururu Rehab centers without any success.
"Mwangi was in jail last year serving a one year term but due to the president's pardon, he was released before the term ended. He was accused of threatening to kill his wife," added Wairimu.
Investigating Officer Juma Kisele had earlier said in his affidavit that the accused was also violent to his family and other neighbours who eventually reported the matter for police intervention.
The accused denied being hostile and said he has been having issues with his family who want to eject him and get the full share of their inheritance.
The prosecution asked for a final adjournment to present a government chemist to establish whether or not the exhibit was bhang.
