A 25-year-old man was on Friday arraigned before a Kisumu chief magistrate court to answer to charges of stealing a sack of 'omena' in Kisumu. Paul Okoth, however, denied the charges before Kisumu chief magistrate Thomas Obutu for the offence he is alleged to have committed on the May 10 at the Acacia bus terminus in Kisumu. The prosecution told the court that the accused works as a potter and he took the said sack with the pretex of assisting a passenger, but disappeared with. He was released on a cash bail Sh5,000 with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case on June 25. Elsewhere, Kisumu County assembly's majority leader Samuel Ong'ow was on Friday arraigned at the Kisumu chief magistrate court with charges of assaulting a police officer. The assault is said to have taken place on May 11 when officers attached to the EACC in Kisumu went to arrest him over a graft case. Senior resident magistrate Aswani Opande heard that Ong'ow assaulted Corporal David Nyandika at Pawteng' village. He was released on a bond of Sh50,000 with an alternative of a cash bail worth Sh20,000. The case will be heard on July 30.
