A man was on Monday arraigned before a Mombasa Court to answer to charges of stealing 730 bags of rice.

Christopher Marwa Wandege was accused of allegedly stealing the bags of rice worth Sh3,848,000.

The court heard that the accused person committed the offence on August 28, 2017 together with other persons not before the court.

Mombasa Resident Magistrate Juliet Kasam heard that the accused jointly with others stole the rice which was to be transported from Mombasa to Busia County.

The bags of rice belonged to Mr Mursal Abdikar Ali.

The accused person, however, denied the charges before the court and asked to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.

Magistrate Kasam ordered for the accused to be released on a surety bond of Sh1,000,000.

The case will be heard on September 19, 2017.
