John Ng'ang'a, 38 attempted to kill himself by jumping into a 50-feet pit.

According to Ng'ang'a's wife, Wairimu, John arrived home drunk and threatened to throw himself in a pit after some domestic quarrel. Efforts to restrain him from jumping into the pit proved futile after he overcame them .

Confirming the incident, Lare OCS David Chemeti said that the police had to work extra hard to remove the suspect from the pit.

“We arrived at the scene of the incident and spent at least eight hours to pull the suspect from the pit,” said Chemet adding that the suspect will be arraigned in court for charges of murder once investigations are through.

He urged couples involved in domestic wrangles to seek advice from elders or government offices to solve their difference instead of trying to kill themselves.

“Whenever a misunderstanding arises in homes, its better to seek for counselling from elderly,” advised Chemeti.

Chemeti expressed his concerns at the rate in which youth are taking away their lives for minor issues which, according to the OCS, could be solved in a better way without loosing lives.
