The victim (name withheld) claims that one officer attacked him at a local entertainment joint on Friday evening.

“I told him 'My friend since you scared us sometime back I have not seen you.' He asked me which kind of a question is that before he threw some jabs at me. He then called other two policemen who joined him in beating me as we headed to the police station (Kondele),” said the victim.

He said that on reaching the police station, they started beating him again at the Occurrences’ Book (OB) area.

“They did not book anything. They then took me to the cell, beat me again before leaving me there,” he said.

Kisumu Residents’ Voice Association chairman Audi Ogada condemned the incident claiming that the officer who first attacked the victim is ‘used to’ mistreating residents of Kisumu.

Ogada urged Kisumu County Police Commandant to ensure discipline among his officers.

In February this year, members of the civil society stormed Kondele Police Station in Kisumu accusing the police of torturing and mishandling suspects booked at the station.

The activists claimed that police were using excessive force while handling suspects.
