An elderly man accused of defiling his 3-year-old granddaughter denied bond. [Photo/File]An elderly man accused of defiling his 3-year-old granddaughter on Wednesday was denied bond by a Kisii court.
The suspect Bironga Nyangaresi had asked the court to release him on bond.
Judge Antony Ndungu who is handling the case declined the bond request saying if the suspect is released, the mob may attack and kill him.
“For safety purposes, the accused won’t be released on bond because the members of the public may attack and kill him. He will remain on remand until the case is heard and determined,” he said.
Bironga pleaded not guilty and he is being held at Kisii main prison.
He was arrested early this month by Nyumba Kumi officials after his wife caught him red-handed in their house in Miranga village Kisii South sub-county defiling the minor.
The hearing of the case was set for January 11, 2018.
