A thirty-three-year-old man in Kianda village is nursing serious injuries on his left leg after he fell into a roadside trench.
The man identified as Kioko, is alleged to have spent the better part of his Monday night enjoying the outlawed chang'aa drink at a local brewing den. Kioko is said to have staggered out in a bid to find his way home after he was done enjoying the brew only to lose stability, thereby, falling into a concrete trench hurting his knee.
The man has now been rendered helpless as he is unable to go for his daily chores given the fact that he is often involved in casual jobs. His family has also been left in wanting financial aid as he is the sole breadwinner.
Cases surrounding injuries resulting from consumption of illegal brews have been on the rise in Kibera even after the famous Mututho laws came into operation.
Chang'aa consumption remains a viable hobby, especially to the elderly and youth who consider it the only option to drown their frustrations.
In the past, a number of people were reported to have lost their lives as a result of consumption of illegal brews that have not been certified by the Kenya Bureau of Standards.
