Police officers are searching for a man who escaped Kikumini police in Masinga sub-county station after injuring a police officer.
Confirming the incident, Masinga sub-county police OCPD Mashua Juma on Monday stated the suspect had escaped while handcuffed.
"The accused who has been arraigned in court severally facing cases of theft escaped the Kikumini police cells after assaulting a police officer," said Juma.
The police boss further stated the suspect known as John Somba according to the officer on duty ran towards Thatha areas committing the crime.
"I call upon Masinga residents to report to the police if they come across one man in handcuffs and goes by the name John Somba who assaulted an officer and escaped," he added.
The police officer who was injured while on duty was rushed to Masinga hospital for treatment and later discharged.
The police have however launched a search for the suspect.
