A 21-year old man was on Wednesday sentenced to 5 years by a Kisii Court over manslaughter.
The court heard that the accused Erick Okongo a boda-boda rider caused the death of his client Evans Obara on January 3, 2017, at Riteka, Gucha sub-county.
Okongo stabbed Obara with a penknife when a heated argument ensued between them.
Obara was rushed to hospital but succumbed to injuries, the court heard.
Appearing before Justice Winfridah Okwany, the accused pleaded guilty.
"Manslaughter is a crime which attracts life imprisonment but upon conviction, I find that 5 years in jail is an appropriate punishment taking into account that the accused has been in custody for almost one year awaiting his trial. I hereby sentence the accused herein to five years imprisonment,’’ ruled the Judge.
