A man who refused to finish his Tuberculosis (TB) treatment dose was on Wednesday sentenced to serve eight months in jail to allow him finish the dose.
Appearing before Thika Resident Magistrate Esther Mburu on Wednesday, the accused Boniface Mbuthia George, 27 was charged that in February 17 2015 in Punda Milia Village within Makuyu sub-country in Murang’a County declined to take his medication as prescribed by his doctor.
According to the Doctor Maureen Gikunda who was treating the accused, refusing to take the prescription is dangerous as the accused person could get the resistant strain of TB thus posing a great danger to himself and those living around him.
The accused pleaded not guilty but his plea fell on deaf ears as the Magistrate sentenced him to serve eight months in custody and ordered that he be held in isolation so that he does not become a health risk to other inmates.
The Magistrate also ordered that the Prison’s doctors should ensure that the accused takes his prescription daily before he is brought back to the Court in October 12 2015 after he shall have completed his treatment.
