A man in Embu has been jailed for smoking bhang to 'boost his strength'.

Joseph Muriithi pleaded guilty and said that smoking bhang helped him to dig good pit latrines.

He agreed having 100g of bhang worth Sh400 at Kathunguri village, Embu North sub-county.

Standing before Embu resident magistrate Jean Ndeng’eri, Muriithi pleaded for mercy saying that digging latrines was his only job.

"Your honour, I could only dig the latrines after smoking bhang,” he said in litigation.

He was handed a fine of Sh30,000 and since he could not raise it, he was taken to Embu GK Prison to begin his five-month sentence.
