Police in Kisumu are investigating circumstances under which a 19-year-old boy died after an altercation with his brother-law on Saturday night.

Ibrahim Ochieng is being held at Kondele police station over accusations that he caused the death of Louis Ayugi Tako at Nyamasaria. Tako is allegedly a boyfriend to his sister.

Ochieng reportedly hit Tako on the head after warning him on several occasions to call off the protracted relationship. This according to Tako’s father Alex Otieno.

Otieno said his son was pronounced dead by doctors at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital where he had been referred after unresponsive treatment at Kisumu District Hospital.

The doctors, he said, informed him that his son suffered internal bleeding in the head.

He told this writer that the parents of the girl had earlier warned his son about the relationship with their daughter.

“They have seeing each other for over two and a half years and even had a child together,” he said.

He said he was aware of the animosity towards his son by their in-laws but did not want to interfere.

“I did not want to interfere because my son loved the girl despite the fact that she had two children from a previous relationship,” he said.

The suspect on Monday handed himself over to the police after escaping the wrath of angry youths who sought him after learning of their friend’s demise. They torched his house and pelted his parents’ house with stones, breaking window panes.

He is being held in custody and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday next week.

His parents have since fled their Kasule village home where the incidence occurred. The family that hails from neighbouring Kasagam had purchased land in Kasule and had lived there for more than seven years, according to neighbours.
