Police in Rongai sub-county have launched investigations to probe the murder of a resident killed on theft allegations.
The body of the victim, 67-year-old Stephen Mbuthia, was later dumped at the chief’s office in Ndungiri on Friday. The chief allegedly reported the matter to Rongai police station who immediately launched investigations into the matter.
Area police boss Joseph Mwamburi confirmed the incident, saying that there are possibilities the deceased might have been beaten by his neighbour for harvesting and making away with green maize from his farm without permission.
According to Mwamburi, Munga Kinyua allegedly nabbed the deceased on his maize farm on Friday evening where he beat and dragged him to the chief’s office where he died.
“The reports indicate that Kinyua found Mbuthia on his farm and he accosted the deceased. Mbuthia may have been dragged and dumped at the chief’s office,” Mwamburi said.
The police boss warned the residents against taking law into their own hands, saying anyone caught by the residents going against the law should be handed over to relevant authorities.
“There are a lot of petty theft cases cropping up especially now that there is farm produce. I urge all people to desist the temptation to reap where they have not sown,” he warned.
Mbuthia body was taken to Rongai municipal mortuary as investigations are carried out to identify the perpetrator.
