Police are looking for a man who alleged to have killed his daughter in Raganga sub-location, Bogusero South location, Kitutu Central sub-county, Kisii County.
The man who has been separated from his wife for over a year, assaulted his two year old daughter at his home at an unknown time and fled shortly afterwards.
Her siblings including a twin brother alerted neighbours about the incident.
The child was taken to Raganga Dispensary for treatment for his injuries and died while receiving medical attention.
Locals then notified area assistant chief Mr Simon Okeyo who reported the incident to the police.
“I was called at around 7 p.m. by villagers led by the headman, who told me that the child had passed away. The man’s wife abandoned the marital home over a year ago due to his violent temper,” Mr Okeyo told Nation.co.keThe child’s body had no identifying marks indicating physical assault except a swollen abdomen.
“We suspect the man could have assaulted the child a long time before she died, and he probably fled on realizing the child had succumbed to the attack,” said County Police Commander Ms Agnes Mudambi
According to the county police boss, the assailant had gone underground. The motive behind the man's attack on his child is still unknown. She however said police were looking for the suspect.
The body has been moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.
