A man left a Molo court in stitches on Wednesday when he said he could not communicate with his lawyer because he threw away his Safaricom SIM card.

The suspect said he had heard Raila Odinga's call to boycott Safaricom and hence dumped his line.

Nicodemus Tiwai had been detained on November 6 after Chief Magistrate Samuel Wahome found him in contempt of the court.

“Your client told us that he could not reach you because he had thrown away his Safaricom line as advised by Mr Raila Odinga,” Chief Magistrate Samuel Wahome told the suspect's lawyer.

His laywer asked for forgiveness on behalf of his client.

“His claim might be true because I have been trying to reach him and his Safaricom line is off,” the advocate said.

Mr Odinga and his National Super Alliance (Nasa) have called on their supporters to boycott the services and products of Safaricom over claims that it aided 'rigging' of August 8 presidential poll.
