A Nyamira man’s business was thrown to a limbo after Kenya Women Finance Trust confiscated his posho mill for allegedly failing to honour terms and conditions of the institution.
On Thursday, a group of women from Nyaboraire descended on Ombati Mokaya’s home and claimed the posho mill that was reportedly bought by Mr Ombati’s wife, Veronicah Kerubo with the former as the guarantor.
During the dramatic event, the women group lamented that the family of Ombati had failed to comply with monthly returns of Sh500,000 they had borrowed from the Nyamira-based women group.
“We are quite in order to confiscate this asset. He was the guarantor and basically our rules and regulations are very clear. We are not only taking the posho mill but also other small items that can be auctioned to recover the loan,” said Alice Ondere, the chair lady.
She accused some women of venturing into such enterprises without honoring their obligations as stipulated in the group’s constitution.
“Our people are very insensitive. Although some have made good use of the loans but those failing to comply with established rules and regulations,” she said.
She encouraged women to avoid getting the loans and giving them to irresponsible husbands who had no vision for the interest of improving their livelihoods.
“I understand that for a long time our women have been misled by irresponsible husbands. It is high time you borrow money and use it for your intended purpose to evade such actions,” she said.
