“Congratulations! you won KSH47,801 on multibet id (BetID 8276)"
What would you do if you received the above message confirming that you have won a bet? celebrate right? wrong.”
That is a message that gambler Adrian Ndirangu has posted on his Facebook account, following feelings of being robbed by local sports betting company SportPesa.
In a Facebook post complete with screenshots and photos, Ndirangu won a multibet totalling Sh47,801 on SportPesa on the September 24, 2016 and lost all his winnings seconds later in mysterious circumstances.
After receiving a congratulatory message from the said company, Ndirangu received the shock of his life when four more messages came in at the same time confirming that he had placed four bets worth Sh10,000 each on unimaginable bets.
The first message was of a bet that reigning European champions Real Madrid would be beaten two goals at half time by Las Palmas followed by another bet of the same amount backing Torino to beat AC Roma by four goals to nil.
After the strange happenings, a shocked Ndirangu tried calling the company but his efforts proved futile after 46 attempts.
The following day, September 25, Ndirangu was advised to visit the company's offices at Chancery building along Valley Road to have the matter settled.
However, his visits to the company offices have been met with hostility from the company's receptionists, he says.
On one of the visits, Ndirangu was advised to change the password on his account which he did only to discover the name had been changed from Adrian to Edwin.
After numerous visits to the company's office and no help, Ndirangu was advised to write an email to the company which they responded to two days later, advising him to keep his account and password safe!
The post shared on Thursday has so far been shared more than a thousand times with concerned people on twitter and Facebook calling for the company to investigate the issue and advising Ndirangu to seek help from the Betting Control and Licensing board.
