A man was on Thursday afternoon stoned to death by an angry mob in Nyatwoni village, Kisii county for allegedly raping and killing a nine-year-old girl.
This is after the body of the girl was found on Thursday morning dumped in a bush.
Area Nyumba Kumi official Ongaga Osoro confirmed the incident saying that he was shocked how quick things were happening.
"Angry locals descended on the suspect after he confessed that he was behind the killing. The police could not manage to rescue him as the villagers overpowered them," he said.
According to him, the suspect was attacked using crude weapons and stones.
Kisii County police commander Hassan Abdi warned locals against taking the law into their own hands.
“Crime suspects should be arrested and surrendered to police. Members of the public are advised not to kill criminals. We are hunting the locals who have gone into hiding after the stoning incident,” said Abdi.
