The corpse of Ngugi wa Mathia was identified by an unidentified passerby who later informed the police.

Officers from Subukia police station arrived at the scene and took the body to Nyahururu district hospital mortuary.

Police sources have intimated that he could have been attacked using a blunt object on his way home as the body had slight injuries on the face.

Elsewhere, in Mukinyai area of Molo, a fuel tanker overturned on Monday morning at the Migaa black-spot along Nakuru- Eldoret highway. The unloaded tanker was reportedly headed to Nakuru from Eldoret.

Police believe the tanker driver was speeding and lost control at a bend along that section of the road. Administration police officers arrived at the scene in time to keep off members of the public who had thronged the scene.  No one was injured during the accident.

The accident comes barely a week after six victims of the recent Kamara fuel tanker explosion were laid to rest.

In a bid to curb the increasing road carnage along the 10km Kibunja-Salgaa stretch, the National Transport Authority and Safety Authority (NTSA) in conjunction with the Kenya Highways Authority have erected bumps and signage.

There are also long-term measures already underway to construct a dual carriage way to replace the current road.
