A 20-year-old man has been nabbed by the police and a sack of charcoal recovered in Masinga town, Masinga sub-county, Machakos county.
Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Sammy Mutiso said that the suspect had reportedly stolen the sack from Ndovoini village in Masinga sub-location.
The chief noted that an angry mob had been baying for the suspects blood had to be rescued by police from the mob.
He however, condemned mob justice claiming that it has been rampant in the sub-county.
"Cases of mob justice have been rampant and people should know that it's unlawful to take the law in your own hands," said Mutiso.
Mutiso said the suspect is being held in Masinga police station as he awaits to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
